The Ready to Wear Fall 2013 shows have come and gone and with it some truly great collections. Here are the top 10 trends that came out of New York, London, Milan and Paris. These looks are simply Ah-mazing!
Girls who like Boys: It’s official - menswear is the look for Fall 2013. A number of collections featured it with the designs from No. 21 in Milan being some of the best.
The Color and The Shape: Embracing the future can be a bit unnerving but thank goodness designers don’t feel that way with shows like the one from Bottega Veneta in Milan that featured strong architectural lines and bold colors.
Un-fur-gettable: One of the most played around fabrics at the Fall 2013 shows was fur. From color to shape, it was all about letting it fly like at the Milan show from Krizia.
The Skin You’re In: For those who want something less dramatic but still luxurious there’s the leather pieces that came down the runways - like at Jo No Fui in Milan - where it was skin on skin on skin.
The Craft: One aesthetic that stood out at the Fall 2013 shows was the strong craftsmanship designers showed like Derek Lam did in New York.
The Comfort Factor: Who says you can’t have your fashion and your cake as well? Looks like the ones from Rodebjer in New York were all about easy lines.
It’s a Marshmallow World: Many designers went with softer shades and there was lots of outerwear in pale shades such as this snow-colored coat from J. JS Lee’s London collection.
Dare to be Square: Another trend that came on strong was plaid, tartan and everything else in that family. It was demure in New York, as seen in Victoria Beckham’s show, but took off like a rocket in London.
All is Bright: It might be solid, boxy silhouettes but part of us still wants that sparkle and designer Wang Peiyi gave a bit of an “under the sea” feel at his Paris show.
Portrait of a Lady: Yes, it’s all about menswear but there was also looks that brought to mind those classic feminine looks from the bygone era like this look from the London show of Emilia Wickstead.
The pick for the favorite collection of the entire season is coming up!
The PFW RTW Fall 2013 Shows are now over and and as for Hell Yeah Rachel Zoe, the title of “Best in Show” goes to Pedro Lourenço.
This young designer - he began working at the age of 12 - has been delivering some very impressive collections in the past seasons but what made this one stand out was the level of maturity he displayed. While in the past it was more about embracing youthful silhouettes this time around there seems to be a better understanding of the female form and Pedro Lourenço’s Fall 2013 collection has shown us that he’s growing not only as a designer but as someone who is embracing his love for garment making.
All in all, a very cohesive line with great touches of innovation that work with classic design. Somewhat reminiscent of the earlier collections
that came from Rodarte, which in my book means a very promising future for the young Mr. Lourenço. It’s everything!
Trend Report from the PFW RTW Fall 2013 Shows
STREET FASHION: The attendees at the Paris Fashion Week shows definitely felt that spring is in the air. With bright colors and a hint of floral here and there, it wasn’t necessarily April in Paris - it’s still quite chilly - so there was plenty of outerwear but nothing too dark or moody. Looks were light and fun, bold and eye-catching. When it comes to Paris, you just have to bring it at your very best. So major!
Trend Report from the PFW RTW Fall 2013 Shows
ACCESSORIES: The two best accessories to come off Paris Fashion Week were the Heidi-inspired bags from Olympia Le Tan (cute and flirty) and the classic pump made luxurious with a touch of gems from Guy Laroche (chic and glam). Bananas!
22/4: A collection inspired by the 1920’s. A show of sleek designs with just a touch of romanticism.
Damir Doma: Ladylike with a twist. Classic silhouettes paired with unconventional accessories made for an original collection.
Martin Grant: Probably the show with the most Ready to Wear aesthetic. Great pieces for any day of the year.
Odeeh: A play on prints and proportions. A collection that took classic design and gave it a 21st century update.
Sharon Wauchob: Romantic aesthetic meets minimalistic design. A collection for those who want to keep it simple and sensual.
Véronique Leroy: Outerwear at its best. A show filled with looks that will work on beating the cold while still looking stylish.
