Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards have come and gone and with it a couple of great looks, some awful looks and plenty of mediocre looks:
Best Dressed: Emmy Rossum in Zuhair Murad
If you got it, by all means flaunt it! It’s a bit warm for that type of fabric but she more than makes up for it by keeping the whole look uncomplicated. The hair and makeup look great and as usual, her accessorizing is spot on. She was also smart enough to come off as sensuous and provocative without resorting to gimmicks or near nudity.
Worst Dressed: Jenny McCarthy in Tom Ford
This is just tragic. A beautiful woman who is pretty much a Hollywood icon should know better. All I can say is “Never again Jenny, never again.”
It was good-meets-evil at the Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013 collection from Zuhair Murad with designs that were luxuriously glamorous. Shutting it down!
To close off for today let’s go out with a big Ta-da! courtesy of the one and only Zuhair Murad and his opulent Spring 2013 couture collection worthy of a Greek goddess. Shutting it down!
Here it is - the “Best & Worst” of 2012!
Let’s start with the Best, of course.
Kate Middleton in Emilia Wickstead: This to me is the best look of 2012. I remember first seeing this and gasping with joy. Kate looks polished yet fresh, respectable yet approachable and just absolutely lovely. Green is her go to color thanks to her dark brown hair and sun-kissed skin. A really wonderful look for such an amazing young woman.
Blake Lively in Zuhair Murad: I have to admit that this young actress isn’t my cup of tea but I also have to admit that she knocked it out of the park with this look. She is drop dead gorgeous and her best bet would be to stick with these femme fatale looks because they suit her to a tee.
Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson: It could be that as a teenager I had a mad crush on Josh. It could be that to me Diane is above and beyond from many of the Hollywood starlets when it comes to fashion and style. Not a lot of bloggers liked this pair’s look but I thought it was great. They might come off a little matchy-matchy with the light blues and metallic touches but you’d be lying if you didn’t admit these two make an adorable couple.
Brenda Strong in Mark Bouwer: I love that with this look Brenda comes off as some fashion magazine head honcho and not a T.V. actress. She also reminds me of a young Annette Bening and that whole look she had in the 1990’s when she did “Bugsy”. What makes this work is that Brenda combined Hollywood glamour with fashionista sensibility which made for an amazing result.
Cate Blanchett in Giorgio Armani: Oh Cate, you can do no wrong.
{Dear reader, if you happen to be someone who is still trying to figure out his or her sense of style look to none other that Ms. Blanchett. Her looked has evolved this past decade in such an inspiring way which is why she is one of today’s most famous fashion icons.}
P.S. Those shoes are to die for!
Emmy Rossum in YSL: The best way to describe this look is sleek and polished which is what everyone should go for when attending these sort of events. It also helps that the color looks great on her, she comes off as both stylish and sexy and whoever accessorized her should get a raise.
Kate Hudson in Jenny Packham: Ms. Hudson is in the (white) house! This was actually a pretty good year for Kate - fashion-wise - but I had to pick this as my favorite look. While most of the celebrity attendees went for hip or trendy Kate decided to give them a sexified version of a First Lady. I have got to say that Kate was Shutting it down!
Leelee Sobieski: I am so happy to see she is finally coming into her own. She is gorgeous and the fashion world is taking to her like bees to honey which makes perfect sense. Designers are tired of dealing with wild child starlets and want class acts, like Leelee, to represent their brands which she does perfectly. I am also happy to say that many other blogs and sites are putting this look as one of the best of the year. Hooray for Leelee!
Solange Knowles in Rubin Singer: Another young woman who is coming into her own. Her sister maybe the one with all the hoopla but Solange is the one who impresses the most. I love that she tries every look under the sun. Some don’t work that well but most suit her one-of-a-kind personality like this all white look. She’s becoming more and more stylish and that’s something we can all learn from: fashion sense is something that is always growing and evolving.
Karolina Kurkova in custom Rachel Zoe: The beautiful Karolina Kurkova made even more beautiful in the most ah-mazing custom-made gown by none other than Rachel Zoe. The gods of fashion are very, very, very pleased.
So what did you all think? Love the looks? Don’t really agree? Let me know.
Stay tune for the Worst of 2012!
The Fall 2012 Haute Couture Shows have come and gone and with it some truly great collections. Here are 6 honorable mentions of shows that were simply Ah-mazing!
Basil Soda: Definitely the “wild one” of the bunch! The much needed sensuality for the season was served up in an animalistic yet subtle manner.
Georges Hobeika: Probably the chicest collection of all! Dresses and gowns with gorgeous bead-work reminiscent of vintage Christmas ornaments.
Iris Van Herpen: These designs combined ultra-modern silhouettes with a romantic vulnerability that made it such a strong collection.
Maison Martin Margiela: This collection made quite a stir and it’s easy to see why! From the beaded masks to the hoof-life footwear it proved that innovation and imagination are still alive and well in the fashion world.
Rami Al Ali: The aesthetics of this collection are quite impressive. Definitely some of the best workmanship seen during the season not to mention its undeniable beauty.
Zuhair Murad: Definitely one of the strongest collections - if not the most - of the season. The bold and unapologetic glamour exuded from beginning to end.
The pick for the favorite collection of the season will be posted later on today so stay tuned!
